It’s the Carbs not the Fat

Click on the pic to see it better from the source. It is just GREAT! Had to share it. Enjoy.

So if I scoff fruit and veg I will become fat and diabetic?
Well potentially yes if the vegetables are starchy like potatoes and the fruit dried. But it you read the chart you’ll see they mean processed carbs.
So processed carbs are bad… are processed fats bad?
Of course but you know that.
So the title of your post could have been, ‘It’s the Fats not the Carb’
no the title could have been processed junk and carbs are the problem…
there is a big difference between healthy animal fats and soybean oil and the like…
i could eat grassfed beef all day long as much as i could stand and i wouldn’t have any health issues.
Apparently you don’t grok the issue.
Fred, I’ve just finished reading all your posts and I love your philosophy and delivery. I’ve ordered your book and plan on starting Slow Burn after reading it. I expect to have great results and added strength and definition because it’s the only exercise that actually makes sense to me. (Besides, I hate to exercise and only twice a week is very attractive!) Been low carb most of my 60 years and went totally grain free a couple years ago and lost the excess weight and feel awesome, but, like most women my age, I do need some strength and muscle definition. Activity just doesn’t build muscle.
I do have to say that you have some of the strangest trolls stalking your site (ahemsumomancough). I have to hand it to you that you keep trying to get through to these guys, but they sure can be obnoxious. Makes for entertaining reading, tho.
I have listened to your podcasts on Jimmy Moore’s site and I like the confidence that you have when you’re communicating your message. Besides, if Drs. Eades recommend your program, that’s good enough for me!
I look forward to your future postings now! Keep up the good fight.
Why thanks PJ! Let me know if I can help you further in any way.
BTW, Juan aka Sumoman is a good fella. He just likes to rib me.
I don’t like the too often conflation of “carbs” with “processed carbs or starches” you see a lot, but I do agree that these foods (starches and such) are best avoided in general.
Eat more meat! Weight gain from eating more protein: more lean body mass, not more fat: http://www.ergo-log.com/eatingmoreprotein.html
Sumoman is a strong fella, too! Didn’t he challenge you a few times and win or something sometime back?
Alfie – yes he is strong at what he does. We were going to do a bench press challenge using standard equipment but I failed to buy a bench, then I had knee surgery then I forgot about it.
It is doubtful he’d be much stronger than I using my equipment for the upper body. But yes I would agree that he is stronger than I am. I unfortuantley suffer from terrible knee arthritis.
Sorry about the knees.
Me too. Being blow legged and 25 years of martial arts, jogging, gluten, etc. took their toll.
Fred,
I discovered your site recently and have read many of your informative and equally entertaining blog posts. I have a few questions for diet/exercise.
What is considred low carb? I take in approximately 150 grams a day and find this to be a good balance for me.
I strength train twice a week. Will hitting the heavy bag once a week interfere with my strength in a negative way?
Will a walking program of moderate paced walking for 1 hour a day, 5 times a week effective for quicker weight loss?
Your expert advise is appreciated in advance.

*****Thank you.

****I don’t understand the concept of “balance.” Balance for what? What is your goal? The experts seem to all agree that a true low carb diet is under 100gms and a VLCD is under 60gms.

*****Maybe but it will damage your arms and shoulders over time. Why do you do this activity? If for fun, well, ok. But it is hard work (I did this for many years in Karate). So if your strength gains keep rising, then you know you’re ok. If you notice that you hit a strength plateau, try to alter when and how often you hit the bag.

*****Not in the least. You want fat loss. Walking burns intramusclular fat and glycogen NOT fat the excess fat on your belly and thighs.
Your expert advise is appreciated in advance.
****I hope I was of some help!
Thanks for the advice friend! Whoa, I think I can hit 100 grams a day of low carb. Just have 50 carbs max at each of my two meals.
For heavy bag work it is fun on occasion and helps release some tension. Maybe it will help to protect myself from the bad fellows, who knows.
Now I am most curious about what you said about walking not being of much help.
Here is my problem. Actually it is a 6ft, 365 lb problem. Would you have some basic advice on how to lose this weight besides the diet? I am talking about exercise besides my 2 strength sessions a week to help in the weight loss process.
Would greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Successful fat loss is:
Low carb diet + building muscle + sound sleep + good hydration + stress relief.
Exercise for burning calories has not a thing to do with this equation/formulae. Faggetaboutit.
